The May Tree Counseling Story

When we set out to create a counseling practice, we wanted the name to reflect the essence of what we hope to offer: healing, protection, resilience, and growth. After much reflection, we chose the name May Tree Counseling, inspired by the Hawthorn tree, also known as the May Tree.

The Hawthorn tree holds deep symbolic meaning across many cultures. It is often associated with protection, healing, and the heart — both physically and emotionally. Its strong branches and delicate blossoms represent resilience in the face of adversity, the beauty that can emerge after hardship, and the ability to heal through gentle strength.

Much like the May Tree, the clients who come to us for counseling have often weathered their own storms. Some may feel vulnerable and worn, unsure of how to heal. Others might seek safety as they navigate trauma or reclaim their voice. The thorns of the May Tree symbolize the boundaries we often need to protect ourselves, while the blossoms remind us of the growth that can follow once healing begins.

In ancient traditions, the May Tree was also seen as a bridge between worlds — a symbol of transformation. This mirrors the counseling journey we hope to guide our clients on: from where they are to where they want to be, connecting body, mind, and emotions in a way that fosters real, lasting change.

May Tree Counseling represents this balance between resilience and renewal, protection and growth, as we aim to offer a safe and supportive space for our clients to heal, grow, and blossom.
